Running the Dragons Back higher and longer

Hi All
A friend and I were chating over an energy bar somewhere round Thabangwangwe and the topic of rescue came up. Every person entering the Drakensberg Park pays a rescue levy, which is used for the greater good when some poor soul lands in trouble. If however you didn't fill in the register or pay the Park entrance fee would the Rescue Fund still foot the bill? Worst case scenario, would the airforce send you an account? Last I heard an Oryx cost R27 000 an hour to run. Food for thought!

How about spicing this up a little bit?

Most Grand Traverse attempts start at the Sentinel car park, which of course is in the Free State. So, there we pay an 'entry fee', but does that count when we get to the KZN part of the hike? Considering that several mini traverses also start here and that even a 2 hour walk to top of Ampitheatre can lead to trouble, I personally think there is a big issue here...

Of course, I like everyone else, hope things will not go wrong

This has been discussed on this blog. Best bet is to pay at KZNW as well as Sentinel. This sounds easy but the last time I tried to pay for someone doing the GT, the person at the KZN office had a serious braincramp & had to be manually rebooted...
