Hi guys Congrats on your efforts. Better luck next go. Great effort all the same, especially in the bad weather. You guys are now the only ones other than Bruce and myself to push through the night, so I take my hat off to you for that!

Preparation

Last December 15th I got a phone call from Christine Harris. She had heard of me through a common friend of ours. She told me that she wanted to beat the women’s record time for the Grand Traverse and was looking for someone to go with her. Was I keen? I said that I was but I regretted saying s… Continue

Cyanosis calls it a day

This just in from Nic:

"At 24h38m, we halted our attempt at the 89km mark, just short of Mafadi. I had trouble with the alititude and O2 yesterday and was completely exhausted overnight as a result. I wouldn't have been able to complete the 2nd half. Ryno was strong as ever. We've walked back to Leslie's Pass and will descend to Injasuthi shortly. Learnt a lot and will definitely make another attempt. N"

So Andrew P, you can put away your shoes and unpack your bag again - your record is… Continue

Champagne Castle, 19h58m

The stretch from Cleft Peak to Champagne Castle has been a tough one. Nic just sent through an sms which reads: "Bad mist and rain on last section. Tough conditions."

Respect to them for gritting it out... in the dark as well. A little difficult to picture from the comfort of my chair :-) This has put them about 5 hours behind record pace as Andrew Porter managed to make Champagne Castle just as it got dark (7pm) on his record-breaking run. If they manage to keep pushing through the night, this… Continue

Cleft Peak summit after 11h27m

So it seems they've been very lucky with the weather. It has just started raining now for the first time today. That's 51km done and about on par with previous fastest times up to this point. The key will be if they manage to keep this pace going and whether they can push thorugh the whole of tonight as they have planned. Next up is Champagne Castle (3377m) at the 80km mark.

Mont-aux-Sources ticked in 1h50m

So they've covered 7.5km so far, with a climb of 700m from the start. The pace should pick up now with easier gradients into the Khubedu Valley before swinging back to the escarpment edge in the region of Fangs Pass. The next compulsory summit is Cleft Peak which is after about 50km.
